This is a wonderful oil painting on canvas by Antoine Blanchard (1910-1988). It features the “Arc de Triomphe”. The painting itself is in Excellent Overall Condition. The site measurement is 16" X 39" inches. Antoine Blanchard is the name under which French artist Marcel Masson painted his immensely popular Parisian street scenes. The artist was born in a small village near the banks of the Loire on 15 November 1910 and received his initial artistic training at the Beaux-Arts in Rennes, Brittany. Antoine Blanchard then moved to Paris in 1932 where joined the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He won the Prix de Rome. Antoine Blanchard essentially painted Paris and the Parisians in bygone days, often from vintage postcards. The artist began painting his Paris street scenes in the late 1950s, and often painted many times the same Paris landmark, in different weather conditions or various seasons. His focus was on the daily life of Paris at the turn of the century. His work became highly sought after the collectors around the world vied acquire his new works. Today he is considered one of the leading exponents of the School of Paris painters. Antoine Blanchard continued to paint until his death on August 10, 1988.
